Bankside Yards, Southwark, SE1 chosen by The Times in its list of London’s best places to live in 2026

The Times has revealed its list of the seven best places to live in London in 2026, with Southwark, SE1 earning a place among the top locations. Here’s why we think they got it right.

The area offers unrivalled connectivity, a riverside setting and immediate access to the capital’s most iconic cultural institutions including Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe. The Times specifically highlights Opus at Bankside Yards for its sweeping river views, the exceptional amenities launching in 2027 (including a padel court, bouldering wall, golf simulator, podcast studio, music room, art studio, sauna, yoga and Pilates studio and hydrotherapy pool and current pool to name a few), and the curated selection of independent shops set to open within the historic Victorian railway arches.

Beyond the wealth of cultural destinations, SE1’s food scene is drawing a high calibre of restauranteurs – including Jon Rotheram, Tom Harris and John Ogier, the trio behind the acclaimed Lasdun at the National Theatre. For families, City of London School (ranked 17th in a nationwide parents’ survey) and City of London School for Girls are just across the river.

While Richmond took the top spot, Southwark was highlighted alongside Crouch End and Fulham as one of London’s standout neighbourhoods. We’ve long believed in this vibrant pocket of London, first with Neo Bankside and now with Bankside Yards, and it’s great to see it getting the recognition it deserves.
